Enjoy and relax on a 37 square mile island and the largest island in Puget Sound south of Admiralty inlet. Approximately 10,000 people reside and are fortunate to be a part of whale watching, a slower paced beach lifestyle, and a short ferry ride to Tacoma or Seattle. Orchards and strawberry farms used to be the number one driver of the island economy. However, now, Vashon’s farms have turned into residential development with retirement, vacation homes, and single family homes with private beaches and quaint shops. Commuters will take the ferry from Vashon to Tacoma or Seattle each day. Vashon is also home to many broadcast radio AM transmitters because of soil conductivity which happens to be the strongest in all of the Puget Sound area.
