Algona is a small city (about 1.3 sq miles) in the valley next to Pacific with only around 3,000 residents. Named after Algoma, an Indian name meaning “Valley of Flowers” but somehow the name Algona was substituted. The Algona community enjoys the small town feel even though they are surrounded by larger cities, business parks, and rail lines. They often host intimate events like the Easter Egg Hunt, Algona Days, Movies in the Park, Music in the Park and the Holiday Socials . Algona is working hard at providing new parks for its citizens, with a recent property devoted into a Tot Park. The Algona wetlands are home to herons and other wildlife and the last mile of the ever popular Interurban trail is in Algona.
