Spanaway is an unincorporated area south of Tacoma, that is often grouped together with Parkland. The main road through town is Pacific Avenue South which is loaded full of businesses. Spanaway was established in 1890 but still remains unincorporated. It is also associated with Mount Rainier since State Route 7 passing through town is the main road to Mount Rainier National Park, the number one tourist attraction in Washington. Spanaway is also adjacent to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, so there are a lot of military families living in the area. One of the most popular locations is Sprinker Recreation Center & Ice Arena. There you will find numerous ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, a skate park, a rock climbing structure, walking trails, the recreation center and the ice skating rink. Another destination location in Spanaway is the Harold E. LeMay America's Car Museum. It holds a museum with 500+ vintage vehicles. Spanaway is also known to many for the Lake Spanaway Golf Course which has an 18 hole, championship layout.
