Many families choose to “Do the Puyallup” year round by locating a home in this scenic city. If you are not from the area, you’ll need to practice saying the name: Puyallup pronounced [pew-al-up]. The indigenous people of this river valley gave the tribe the name Puyallup, meaning “generous people”. More history of the area can be found at the Meeker Mansion or Karshner Museum and you can celebrate the history at Meeker Days early in the summer. The most recognizable location is the Western Washington Fairgrounds, also known as the Puyallup Fair. It happens to be the eighth largest fair in the world and runs for 17 days in September. The Pioneer Park is the hub of the city with the library, outdoor sculptures, hosts the farmers market, has a park with playground, and City Hall. The Pierce County Foothill Trail starts in southeast Puyallup.
