The Ocean Shores Peninsula was used as a cattle ranch from 1929 until 1960. It was then sold to the Ocean Shores Investment Corporation for $1,000,000. They sold lots out of a travel trailer starting at the price of $595 but most were sold sight unseen from the first plat maps. Many were sold to investors in the Hollywood California area. As the numbers of lots sold, the prices rose. The water canals were planned, a six hole golf course built and some of the same shopping areas we see today were built in 1961. By 1963 there was a marina and airstrip. The Ocean Shores boom was happening. By 1969 Ocean Shores was declared the “Richest Little City” with an assessed evaluation of $35 million and 900 permanent residents. In 1970 the city was incorporated with a planning commission formed to zone the city and codify streets. The city’s first school opened in 1971 and road paving on streets began in earnest.
