Old Town Tacoma is a neighborhood in the north end of Tacoma where Tacoma began, originally called "Tacobet" by the Puyallup Indians.. At this location of the original settlement in 1865, Job Carr built a cabin near the shore in anticipation of future land speculation due to the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad. Today, Old Town still has its own distinct atmosphere . Homes in Old Town are desirable due to the small community feel even though they are part of the much larger Tacoma area.
